The program launched on August 15th, 2018. Kanti Velugu - An unprecedented initiative towards 'Avoidable Blindness-free Telangana.
The State Government has embarked on a Noble Project of achieving “avoidable blindness-free” status by conducting a Comprehensive and Universal Eye Screening for the entire population of the State under the title 'Kanti Velugu'. Universal Eye Screening to be done for all the citizens of Telangana.
The program was launched on January 18, 2023 and aims to conduct eye screening and vision test for all citizens of the state as well as providing spectacles free of cost and providing medicines for common eye ailments. Kanti Velugu also aims to educate people on prevention of serious disabling eye diseases.
If the vision of the eye is poor, life is filled with darkness. For those suffering from eye-related problems, the Telangana government has introduced the Kanti Velugu scheme for a blindness-free Telangana.
Under the scheme of 'Kanti Velugu', we do screening here. If any diseases are found, we refer the patients to Sarojini hospital. If no major diseases are found, we give them medications and spectacles. The center operates from 9 AM to 4 PM.
Under the Kanti Velugu, free eye screening will be held at the special health camps for 100 days with 1500 medical teams. The first phase of Kanti Velugu was conducted for eight months by 827 health teams. The health camps will commence on January 19 in the rest of the state.
20/20 vision is normal vision acuity (the clarity or sharpness of vision) measured at a distance of 20 feet.
